CHEMISTRY CATEGORY

The Chemistry category of the NEO Science Olympiad covers a range of topics, including chemical reactions, chemical bonding, thermodynamics, kinetics, organic chemistry and inorganic chemistry. Participants are challenged with questions that require problem-solving, critical thinking and a strong understanding of chemical principles.

Questions often focus on the practical applications of chemistry in various fields, including pharmaceuticals, materials science and environmental science.

The questions range from fundamental concepts to more advanced topics and are designed for students at different levels of knowledge. The category encourages students to deepen their understanding of chemistry and pursue further studies in the field.

Exam Information:

The questions will be the same for all grades within each group listed below. However, evaluations will be conducted separately for each grade, and the results will be announced accordingly.
• Grades 9-10
• Grade 11

The Qualification Exam in the Chemistry category is offered on two designated exam dates. Participants may take the exam on either or both dates, with each attempt conducted independently. The Qualification Exam determines participants’ eligibility for the Grand Finals in Orlando and New York, USA.

Students who achieve at least 40 points in the Qualification Round advance to the Grand Final in Orlando and New York, USA.

The top 3 students in grades 9 to 11 will qualify for exclusive discounts on participation in the Grand Final Program in Orlando and New York, USA, provided they meet all other participation requirements.
